Angel Locsin made her triumphant return last night, July 15, as FHM Philippines' Sexiest Woman in front of a jampacked predominantly male crowd who all trooped to the World Trade Center in Pasay City to witness the annual spectacle.
The Kapamilya actress—whose controversial network alliance shift back in 2007 made showbiz headlines—regained the throne she won five years ago by beating last year's winner Cristine Reyes.
Angel garnered a total of 284,156 votes against Cristine's 227,390 while Marian Rivera placed third overall with 218,742.
Rounding up this year's Top 10 are Iwa Moto, Angelica Panganiban, Katrina Halili, Regine Velasquez, Bangs Garcia, Ehra Madrigal, and Jackie Rice.
Angel is a regular fixture in the annual list having made it into the Top 10 for eight consecutive years. The timing of her cover appearance in the magazine's May 2010 issue boosted her campaign at the last minute and eventually thwarted Cristine's bid for a back-to-back victory.
Making the biggest leap in this year's race is Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez. Settling for No. 52 in 2009, Regine hopped to the 7th spot to overtake perennial favorites Bangs Garcia, Ehra Madrigal, and burgeoning babe Jackie Rice.
An interesting bit of trivia: Regine holds the record for having the most appearances in the list despite the fact that she has yet to pose for the popular men's magazine.
CARNIVAL THEME. Last night's carnival-themed affair was noticeably fast-paced: no host, no guest bands, and no lengthy intermission numbers.
The welcome sight of hot mommas Jean Garcia and Eula Valdes on the long runway kicked off the sexy parade.
Living up to its main theme, the event splendidly mixed carnival-inspired spectacles in between while celebrities and models commissioned to represent sponsors walked down the stage without letup.
There were a few celebrities, however, who did more than just strut and display those curves.
Sex guru and condom endorser Paloma pole danced, sexy actress Bangs Garcia suspended herself in midair, Pinoy Big Brother latest sweetheart Sam Pinto and Janna Dominguez became magic trick subjects. These were only some of the highlights.
Celebrities whom male fans couldn't get enough of were Katrina Halili, Jackie Rice, Brazilian Daiana Menezes, Sam Pinto, Julia Clarete, Iwa Moto, Eula Valdes, and Jean Garcia.
ANGEL SOARS. Angel Locsin's grand entrance—tied to a harness and wearing a pair of angel wings—was reminiscent of her past role as Alwina in the GMA-7 primetime series, Mulawin.
Red confetti rained down from the rafters as FHM Philippines Sexiest Woman for 2010 was officially introduced to the waiting public.
Angel then proceeded to do the customary victory stage walk to allow the fans to have a better glimpse of the actress.
"Maraming salamat sa lahat ng bomoto... Very thankful ako sa lahat ng nagtiwala sa akin and nagpapasalamat din ako sa FHM dahil after five years, di ba, ako ulit? Parang kumbaga, kung mag-boyfriends, kayo parang nagkagalit lang kayo sandali tapos back again," Angel told the members of the press after the event.
Many of those who made it to the top ten were conspicuously absent: Cristine Reyes, Marian Rivera, Angelica Panganiban, Regine Velasquez, and Ehra Madrigal.
Angel feels that the stars mentioned opted to skip the event for valid reasons and not because they have anything against the outcome of the final tally.
"Maski naman ako dati wala rin," said Angel, pertaining to her absence in the past annual victory party. "Ngayon lang talaga nag-effort talaga ako kasi bilang pasasalamat na rin."
