www.philstar.com/ArticlePrinterFriendly.aspx?articleId=583693Century Tuna & Angel Locsin inspire healthy living(The Philippine Star) Updated June 13, 2010 12:00 AM MANILA, Philippines - With the vision to strengthen its position as a health and wellness brand, market leader Century Tuna introduces the newest faces of its fit and active lifestyle campaign: TV and movie actress Angel Locsin and the 2010 Superbods winners. “Century Tuna is keen on aggressively promoting a lifestyle of health and fitness among our consumers and we want to ensure that this thrust is fittingly represented by credible personalities that truly embody the Century Tuna healthy lifestyle. So it was an easy decision to choose Angel Locsin as our new image model as she has always been known as an active health and sports advocate,” said Angela Gamboa, Century Tuna senior product manager. “Our new Superbods, meanwhile, have also been carefully selected to ensure that they personify a healthy mind and body, so they will be good role models among the youth today,” added Gamboa. Angel Locsin and the 2010 Superbods join Century Corned Tuna endorser Derek Ramsay as the brand’s celebrity advocates of health and wellness. Angel is regarded as one of Philippine showbiz’s most talented and sexiest female stars, who has made a name for herself as a dramatic actress in many hit teleseryes as well as an action princess in past fantasy and adventure-themed soaps. These days, she’s busy shooting for another must-see teleserye that will pair her with top actor John Lloyd Cruz. Apart from her natural acting talent, it’s that gorgeous body that makes this 25-year-old actress so popular. There’s no surprise there as Angel is a natural sports lover just like Derek. She was actually a competitive swimmer before becoming a star, and is now actively pursuing challenging sports like muay thai, boxing and diving to help her maintain a fit and healthy body. As Century Tuna’s new face, Angel has indeed turned from sexy to Superbod, one who is inspired to be the image of an active and healthy lifestyle. She shared: “Being a Century Tuna endorser is really a great honor. It’s a great opportunity to inspire others to adapt a healthy lifestyle.” Joining Angel and Derek in helping promote health and wellness are the 2010 Superbods — four new faces of the healthy, active lifestyle who are ready to inspire their fellow youth to live healthy. The new Superbods are 18-year-old nursing student Lea Yosalina, 21-year-old psychology student Jillian Lua, 21-year-old TV host/model Renzie Ongkiko, and 23-year-old civil engineer Van Vincent Leaño. Century Tuna introduced four new Superbods this year to reflect its commitment to aggressively spread the importance of a healthy lifestyle among Filipinos. The four bested hundreds of model hopefuls who lined up at the Superbods go-see conducted during the Century Tuna Superbods Run 2010 — the country’s biggest and most star-studded celebration of health and fitness. The new Superbods were chosen for living up to the Century Tuna brand’s concept of total fitness — having not only a healthy body, but also a healthy mind. As the new Superbods, the four are excited to help inspire the public to take up a healthy lifestyle. Lea and Renzie aim to instill the importance of sports and exercise. Jillian and Van Vincent, meanwhile, are keen at promoting healthy eating, particularly encouraging people to adapt a tuna diet to gain the benefits of Omega 3 DHA, which not only helps keep the body in shape but also helps keep a sharp mind. As it introduces its new faces of the fit, active and healthy lifestyle, Century Tuna is poised to inspire and encourage Filipinos to start eating healthy, be involved in physical fitness and enjoy the best of health in the most delicious way.

Angel joins Derek as advocate of health and wellnessBy CRISPINA MARTINEZ-BELEN June 12, 2010, 10:23am Just recently, ABS-CBN’s prized star Angel Locsin and definitely one of the country’s most talented and sexiest female stars, and the 2010 Superbods winners were introduced to the media as the new faces of Century Tuna’s fit and active lifestyle campaign. They joined Derek Ramsay, another Kapamilya Network’s popular star, as celebrity health ambassadors of Century Tuna. Said Angela Gamboa, Century Tuna senior product manager: “Century Tuna is keen at aggressively promoting a lifestyle of health and fitness among our consumers.” Both Angel and Derek impressed the press and TV reporters with their enviable figure and physique. Asked what preparation she made to achieve such physical fitness, Angel said “nag-exercise ako ng matindi, and of course kumain ako nang Century Tuna.” But seriously, she said she had been biking. At 25, Angel has maintained that gorgeous body that always makes her a favorite cover girl. In the past, she was even named the country’s Sexiest Female Celebrity. At ABS-CBN, which she eventually joined amid controversies and issues, Angel took on more serious roles in equally successful teleseryes like “Only You” and “Lobo” where she earned a Best Actress nomination at the prestigious Emmy Awards. In films, Angel has proven her acting mettle in such films as “I Will Always Love You,” “The Promise,” “Love Me Again,” “Sigaw,” “Mano Po 3,” and “Angels” which she also produced. Aside from being an established actress, Angel also became a sought-after celebrity endorser. Like Derek, Angel is also a natural sports lover, who was actually a competitive swimmer before becoming a star. After joining showbiz, she got more active in challenging sports like Muay Thai, boxing and diving. www.mb.com.ph/node/261668

PEP REVIEW: Sukob Na 2010 evokes a sense of nostalgia Earl Villanueva Monday, June 14, 2010 12:40 AM In 2002, after its "Saya Ng Summer" station ID (yes, the one that started it all), ABS-CBN made a very interesting follow-up: a rainy season station ID. In those days, the idea was quite novel. Making one for summer is expected since it is a much-anticipated, festive (and not to mention, commercially lucrative) season as Filipino culture and tradition dictate. But to make one for a time of the year when we're always wary of an incoming typhoon, most likely to catch illnesses, or when even the most basic things like having our clothes dried or commuting to school or work give us much stress? That was unheard of, and maybe a little bit unnecessary.
But wet season hassles aside, we Filipinos, of course, have our melodramatic and sentimental side that nurtures a love affair with the rain. In fact, we have a vast collection of Pinoy songs that romanticize the rainy days.
And in 2002, ABS-CBN tapped into this emotional attachment we have with the season of downpours, and the "Sukob Na" station ID was born. Instead of havoc, diseases or horrendous traffic, the station ID reminded us of the things we enjoy about the season, equating rain with comfort, togetherness and love. And with that video of stars either playing in the rain outside or enjoying their bonding time indoors, warmth was given to the hearts of the viewers in those cold times, and ABS-CBN from then on owned the idea of having a rainy day season station ID.
That particular station ID is easily one of ABS-CBN's most memorable. It had a feel-good song by local boyband 17:28 that became sort of an unofficial rainy day anthem, plus touching Kapamilya moments that strengthened the Network's promise of being there for their viewers come rain or shine.
For quite some time, ABS-CBN never released another one of its kind, or if they did, it obviously is not as memorable as their "Sukob Na" campaign. But this year, ABS-CBN promised to lead the nation once again in welcoming the rainy season. And right on the first few moments of the 2010 rainy season station ID, we had the feeling that we've heard that song before. And are we right about this feeling. In a shocking twist of events, ABS-CBN known for giving us station IDs that are always different than the previous ones, did a rehash.
Technically, it's not an ID for the entire network's programming. It's made for ABS-CBN's commemoration of the 60 years of the Pinoy Soap Opera. "Sukob na 2010" uses the same song, now interpreted by Aiza Seguerra, but of course, with a less R&B/Pop boyband and a more natural, subdued and acoustic feel. It features the lead stars of ABS-CBN's current and upcoming teleseryes.
The SID becomes surprising in this aspect. Although we're familiar with Xyriel Manabat from Momay, and Empress, Felix Roco and Matt Evans from Rosalka, our curiosity is piqued by the sudden pairing of Cristine Reyes with Zanjoe Marudo and Jericho Rosales with Anne Curtis. Some viewers might find it unusual that Gretchen Barretto--considered to be a high-society personality--is suddenly on a picnic mantel with Bea Alonzo. Soon, La Greta will finally star in her own teleserye titled Magkaribal. There's also the appearance of Kristine Hermosa with Piolo Pascual enjoying the rain with Zaijian Jaranilla (a.k.a. Santino). The matinee idol is currently busy shooting for this teleserye titled Noah.
One thing is clear: John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin is now officially ABS-CBN's 'flagship' love team, being placed on the important end frames. Fans of the two are looking forward to their upcoming fantaserye Imortal.
Given her pregnancy, it's understandable why ABS-CBN's declared "face of Pinoy Soap Opera" Judy Ann Santos is not included in this plug.
Forgetting all these issues about the personalities, the station ID still evokes the same heartwarming feelings we had when we saw the first version eight years ago. Again, the SID makes us forget everything we hate about the rainy season, and envelope us with that certain mood of cherishing all that's good and beautiful about the cool and damp weather.
And technically, this ID is leaps and bounds better than the original. With its impressive visuals coupled with soothing music, it's such a joy and pleasure to watch, as comforting as a hot soup on a rainy day. Come on, whose heart will not melt with scenes like that of little adorable Momay playing in the rain? Beautifully shot and superbly directed, this ID makes you want to join the stars in playing, dancing and chasing each other under the calming raindrops.
In the end, the ID being a rehash (or in a more positive term, an update), even worked to its advantage. Like rediscovering old photographs or old records we used to like, it brings us back to past emotional moments and help bring a sense of nostalgia. And in the time of El Niño when we long begged the skies and the gods for rain, Sukob Na 2010 shows us that the time we have been waiting for has come, and it is worth celebrating too, just like summer or Christmas.

Dressed down and drenched
Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 17:47:00 06/13/2010
Filed Under: Celebrities, Television Most Read Gretchen Barretto—she who is usually suited to the hilt—was requested to dress down. Greta’s coaster rolled onto the set half an hour earlier than the 3 p.m. call.
She was fully made-up (they mentioned nothing in that department) but wore shorts and flip-flops. When the cameras started rolling, the “rain” started pouring. Greta and co-star Bea Alonzo were drenched, but laughing like kids.
This is a scene in ABS-CBN’s new station ID, launched on Friday, which celebrates the 60th year of soap operas on Philippine TV.
With music from Aiza Seguerra, the SID features the network’s teleserye stars, including Zaijan Jaranilla, Kristine Hermosa, Empress Schuck, Matt Evans, Felix Roco and Anne Curtis.
Helmet, please
Jericho Rosales brought his own skateboard to the shoot. An advocate of safety helmets, he suggested that he wear one for his scene. The production team naturally obliged.
Xyriel Manabat, 6-year-old star of “Momay,” thought nothing of donning a raincoat and rain boots two sizes too big, even in the scorching heat. Though she enjoyed the rain effect like Greta and Bea did, Xyriel had to cut her playtime short because she was needed back on the set of her serye.
New hairdo
Piolo Pascual sported a new haircut—he was in the thick of preparations for his coming soap, “Noah.” Did he bring anything of his own to the shoot? His mom! She was visiting from the United States.
Kibitzers agreed that John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin had undeniable chemistry on screen and off. Nothing seemed to dampen the coziness between them, not even the requisite drenching.
The two just carried on chatting throughout the shoot, and would invariably be laughing whenever director Richard Ang shouted, “Cut!” From the set, they went straight to rehearsals for a dance number they were performing at the ABS-CBN trade event that night.
Most fun
But it seemed the pair who had the most fun were Zanjoe Marudo and Christine Reyes, whose bike scene for the SID resembled a clip from a Koreanovela!
The creative group for the SID was headed by Robert Labayen.

Memories of dadBy Dolly Anne Carvajal Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 22:01:00 06/14/2010 Filed Under: Entertainment (general), Celebrities A COLLEAGUE OF MINE asked me if I cried when my dad passed away last month, even if I wasn’t that close to him (I stayed with my mom after they separated when I was a teen). How can I not shed tears? My dad and I may have drifted apart but in his own way, he left an indelible mark in me. There are some things that only a father can do. I’ll keep trying my best to keep the “Carvajal” name he left me with untainted. In celebration of Father’s Day on June 20, I asked some celebs about their fondest memories with their dads. Here’s to the first man in our life whom we will always look up to, no matter how tall we grow. Angel Locsin: “My dad was the one who taught me how to swim but when I started to compete, I had to be trained by a coach. All throughout my training, I would see my dad standing at the edge of the pool.”Pops Fernandez: “Since my dad was incarcerated, I rarely saw him as a kid. I remember how excited I was on jail visits. The saddest time was going home without him.” Tetchie Agbayani: “My earliest fond memory of my dad was when we’d leave home at dawn to go to Luneta every Sunday for his regular walks around the park.” Amy Perez: “My fondest memory was when we used to go up to Baguio and dad would take us to Camp John Hay because that’s where he was assigned. I enjoyed playing with the vendo machine that dispenses chocolates and eating in a steakhouse.” Suzie Entrata-Abrera: “As a kid, I treasure the times with my dad Oca flying kites around our village.” John Estrada: “The time my dad had a heart attack 10 years ago stands out in my memory. While in the hospital, we had a long talk about life. I told him he’s not gonna die because I won’t allow it.” Christian Bautista: “My priceless memory with dad would be all the times he would go out of his way to teach me a new sport he loves.” Drew Arellano: “From elementary till high school, my dad would shout ‘Happy Day’ when I entered the school gates. At first I was embarrassed but looking back, I feel so lucky to have a dad who’s so optimistic.” Janno Gibbs: “My dad and I still hug and kiss to say hello and goodbye. I cherish all the moments we play golf together.” Mr. Fu: “I remember that my dad used to give me toy cars and other stuff that boys love to have. He didn’t know that I just love boys, period. Ha ha! I am sure by now he knows the real me because he listens to me on the radio and watches me on TV. Basta naliligiran na lang ng luha ang mata niya ngayon. Ha ha! May ganon?” Miriam Quiambao: “My dad’s language of love is service. In high school, he would pick us up after a soiree or a day out with friends.” E-mail wateringholeshangrila@yahoo.com showbizandstyle.inquirer.net/entertainment/entertainment/view/20100614-275585/Memories-of-dad
